Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is often remembered as the child genius who dazzled Europe with his prodigious talent. But beyond the image of powdered wigs and concert halls lie fascinating details about his life that are less well known.

Born in Salzburg in 1756, Mozart began composing at the age of five, yet his early tours across Europe were as grueling as they were glamorous. He and his sister Nannerl performed for royalty, but the family often endured long coach rides, illness, and uncertain finances. Few realize that the celebrated prodigy grew up under immense pressure, with his father Leopold acting as both mentor and demanding manager.

Mozart’s personality was equally complex. He had a playful, even mischievous streak, often writing bawdy letters filled with wordplay and humor. At the same time, he was deeply devout, composing sacred works like the Great Mass in C minor alongside his operas. His music reflected this duality—sublime elegance woven with earthy vitality.

Despite his fame, Mozart struggled financially throughout his adult life. He was not a wealthy composer but a working musician, constantly negotiating commissions and teaching students to make ends meet. His untimely death at 35 remains partly shrouded in mystery, though it is clear he left behind an unfinished masterpiece, the Requiem, that would only add to his legend.
